I don’t think you need a degree, but most require you to have certification or training of some sort to apply to or previous experience, but how do you get experience without a chance and having to compete with so many people looking for work?
Laura
Hello, my name is Laura. I am 20 years old and im currently attending college to get my associates in criminal justice. Its a field I have always wanted to know more about and find a job in. I am very interested in getting into criminal justice. To be quite frank…I have no idea how to even find a job in criminal justice nor a detective job. Its really what I want to do however. Can someone give me more information on how to reach my goals. I would really appreciate it. Thanx.

I am A 38 year retired Post Office supervisor. Ihave applied for many many positions, but to no avail. My resume shows Iam a reliable and dependable. What is my next step?

I disagree with the first listing of Dental Hygienist, you do need schooling and a degree of sorts. You can’t just get a job as a Dental Hygienist and learn on the job. I went to school for Dental Assisting and they are the ones who work side-by-side with the Dentist all day long, not the Hygienist. These are two positons/terms that are commonly mis-labeled.
Cynthia
I would like a littlle more information about the DEntal Hygienist
Patty
How do I get involved with detective work. I would love that. Patty
Patty
A;lso I do believe you need a degree for denal hygienist?
If not how do I get involved?
Madeline
That’s not true about Dental Hygienist, its called
a Dental Assistant and its a Certificate program.
A DH has much more training, and is probably
a Bachelor’s Degree.
Kay
I would like more info on the dental hygienist. I thought you have to have some courses for these positions?
Deborah
I don’t know where you obtained your information, but a Funeral Director/Embalmer go through a lot of training and have to pass a National Board Exam and they have to be licensed by their states department of professional regulation. They also have to keep up with continuing education requirements. The only state that I am aware of that is different is Colorado. This article sounds like anyone can go out and be a funeral director/embalmer. Seriously, would you want just anyone with no knowledge of laws and regulations and no knowledge of anatomy and where all of the arteries are in the body and chemistry handling the remains of your loved one? Most states also require a one year apprenticeship before a license is issued.

I’M A LICENSED NURSE AND SPEAKING ON BEHALF OF THE SUBJECT OF DENTAL HYGENIST AND FUNERAL DIRECTOR YOU DO HAVE TO OBTAIN A COLLEGE DEGREE IN BOTH FIELDS, IF YOU DON’T BELIEVE, CALL ANY COLLEGE THAT OFFER THESE COURSES, I HAVE FRIENDS IN BOTH FIELDS WORKING AS WE SPEAK TODAY..
Edward
That is true about the Funeral Director. I don’t know who writes this stuff but you are very lucky to find a job in this field. There are not many openings. At least not where I live. And FYI to whoever wrote this- a Funeral Director is not a he. There are many women in this field as in any career. Let’s try getting up to speed on the times.
regina
i would like to know more about the dental hygenist

Zhor,
I’m a teacher, but have studied job application/interview skills extensively. The first thing you need to do is work on your writing and grammar. My guess is that English is not your first language. Have someone proofread what you write. A proper, correct resume is crucial. One mistake can put it to the bottom of the pile.
aaron
Thnaks Edward, I understand there are many females in the field. I apologize if that sounded sexist in anyway.
aaron
Agreed :)

I am a student of Security and Private Investigatiion. So, you are telling me that I don’t need a degree in this field? Maybe not in security, but to be an investigator in Ohio, you need to be licensed, and to be licensed you need schooling.

hi i am looking for a job in columbus ohio i have to ride the bus and if have to ride two busesthat ok to.

I would have to disagree with the Dental Hygienist info. They require special E.F., (Extended Function), certificates, and need to be an R.D.A. first. I went to school to be trained as an R.D.A. I never was able to test for the R.D.A license but I did get to work as a dental assistant. I was the only one in the office that even went to school for dental assisting and I was paid less than everyone. which was a disappointment. I felt that going through school was a waste. I did however feel good about the fact that I knew about some things they did not.made me slightly more valuable. In dentistry you only really learn how to do the job efficiently when you actually do the tasks over and over . You can study about it and learn some but nothing prepares you for what you really do until you do it.

47 year old got my IST degree completed over six years ago but have over 15 years experience already in it but now outdated becuase I went back to college. Can not find a job and hated the travel that was required for most IST positions. As farasI am concern it was the only career for me, I hate that I am now having to think about going back to college becoming a vetenarian.. I can not hussle anymore” I mean I am very slow” and in time I think it would be the only career I would go into that I could later go into business for myself. My age is expected to be in business for self or Publishing a book. I am not going to publish a book. I HATE ENGLISH WRITING.

Yea…..for the love of toilet paper, PLEASE DON’T LISTEN TO THIS mess…..smh…..what these interviewers need to do is……..wait for it……wait for it…….STOP ASKING ME QUESTIONS OF WHY I CHOOSE THEIR COMPANY!!!!! IF THIS COMPANY ISN’T GOING TO PAY ME OVER 50,000 A YEAR…THEN THE REASON I AM LOOKING FOR A JOB IS BECAUSE I AM UNEMPLOYED……I HAVE TO BITE MY TONGUE EVERY TIME I AM ASKED THAT QUESTION…IT IS NOT MY DREAM TO FREAKING WORK AT WALMART…….sorry….I had an interview today…..need to let out some steam….I did good except one question….lol I hadn’t had an interview like in ten years….I wasn’t even asked those types of questions when I applied for my last job. I have noticed that theses jobs now n days are acting very snoody to future employees…….I don’t like it……but hey….that’s life right??? has anyone else notice how these jobs are acting??

You gave me a god idea and heads up on funeral Director
knowitall
todays job market suks. knowledge of the job and loyalty mean nothing.Y ou needto KNOW someone who works ther. And that does’t gauretee you’ll keep your job. Most employers have 50 to a 100 people waiting for you to skrew up so they can get your job. so being good or even exellent isn’t enough, you have to be willing to protect youself.Bosses don’t need to worry about how quickly they can replaice you now.
Ernest De Brew
The job market can be difficult. I do agree with you, knowitiall, on knowing people at the job.
To me, it is somewhat a problem for me. I am shy, quiet, and a little moody. I have a hard time really opening up to people because of trust issues. However, I do find a few people whom I can get along so well. I think what really matters is being around those who likes and wants to be there for you.
Don’t end up working somewhere dealing with snobs, troublemakers, and/or those who treat you like dirt. From past experience at my last job, I would not make that decision again.
Ben
I think we should be careful in si readily accepting whomever is writing this article. Everyone I know who is a or was a Funeral Director had to acquire special credentials and or training . And as far as I know, Dental Hygienist and Criminal Investigators earn degrees as well.
Leanne
I am a funeral director in CA, you have have a associates degree to get your license.

I have certification as a Medical Assistant, EKG tech.,and in Phlebotomy,I also took the National Health Career Association Certification Exam and did very well and passed them all with good grades and now all i find is, Jobs require 2-5 years experience. well if i cant get a job in the field of work then how do i get the experience, can someone help me find a job in the healthcare field?
Barbara
I have been in the medical field over 30 years. I left my current job of 20 years because the office was draining me with so much negativity, and I felt I deserved better. Now I find myself in a world of hurt because no one will give my experience a chance. I’m not certified, over 50, and had filed bankruptcy. I am really feeling that all three are working against me. I apply for jobs that don’t require a certification, and nothing…..Ive got so much work experience, and work left in me, and no one will give me a chance. Help!!!
Jay Billups
I’m feeling some of these blogs. I am 54 years old, have 26 years of commercial driving experience, five plus years of certified forklift experience, and not long ago, I completed schooling for Automotive Technology. I worked in that field for about a year before being terminated for reasons later deemed wasn’t my fault. I’m trying like crazy to find a job in ANY of the aforementioned field. I have an impeccable attendance record, sometimes coming to work even though I’m sick. When I’m on the job, I treat it as if it were my second home. My problem is, when I try to apply to a job in person, I’m told to apply online. When I do, (and I filled out hundreds of online applications), I either don’t get any kind of a response, or a “congeniality” response. I even went as far as to write four different custom resumes for each field, and one general. I live in northern New Jersey, and I’m willing to commute or relocate to New York. Please help.
